Learn to make your own wooden furniture cleaner and polish

If you have wooden furniture you can easily mix up a cleaner and polish. It is a bit like making a salad dressing.

All you need are:

  • 2 jam jars (with lids)
  • Olive oil
  • Lemons
  • Vinegar
  • Filtered water

To make the cleaner add 3 tbsp vinegar to 1 cup water and shake, and then use a microfiber cloth to clean. Dip the cloth into the mixture and wipe over the timber following the wood grain. Note: timber does not like water so ensure the cloth is only just damp.

To make the polish add 1 cup olive oil and 1/2 cup lemon juice, then dip the polish cloth in and gently rub over the timber. This can also be mixed in a spray bottle which makes application easier.

Here's a neat trick to try if you have small scratches on the timber. You can either use baby oil to polish them away, or for a slightly larger scratch or mark, find a wax crayon the same colour, draw over the mark and then polish the wax in with a soft dry cloth.
